A panel of judges will access the works and one winner will have the honour of being the inaugural UTBM ART PRIZE WINNER for 2009 plus $500 cash in their back pocket.
The winning artwork will be announced at the Gallery Opening on the 27th of October, works will continue to be shown in the Polymorph Gallery up to the 6th of November. Most of the works will be also be available for sale, so if you have been looking for that talking piece in your lounge room this is where you are going to find it.
Dark Alternative art in the 21st century is informed by the zeitgeist - environmental degradation, war, the cult of materialism... but Dark Art isn’t necessarily a lamentation. It can be a twisted and humorous comment on the state of the world or a visual wake up call.
UTBM and the Polymorph Art Gallery would love you to be part of this continuum of Darkly Beautiful creativity. We urge you to express yourself in painting, drawing, sculpture, digital art, new media or installation as part of the UTBM ART PRIZE. We want you to blow our minds artistically - come into the competition with anything you like [we will draw the line at certain things, no pictures of Barbie hugging a kitten, unless it’s a bizarre, dark, freakish picture of Barbie hugging a kitten, not too twisted] and help us make this the greatest gathering of Dark Alternative Arts.
