Peeping Tom (1960)

In 1960 audiences were revolted by a film of such shockingly voyeuristic violence that it created a media outrage. And later on that year, Psycho came out.

Although it’s fallen by the wayside in the fickle memory of the collective cinema, Peeping Tom is so much more modern and disturbing in its implications, and its implication of the audience, ( Read more... )

this really sounds very similar to Man Bites Dog and now I cant' help but wonder if MBD was inspired by it.

Man Bites Dog is a film I and my gf at the time were absoultely angered about. In its documentary style, it seemed to glorify the serial killer whose accounts they were following with no real purpose except gratuity.

Wow. I don't get that sense from Peeping Tom at all; but I might have to see MBD out of curiosity.

If you think this is good, other interesting films from Powell are The Red Shoes (1948) and Black Narcissus (1947).
