[Note: I am well aware that this book hides a volatile fandom which would probably lynch me for what I am about to say. I can only assume they will not find me.]

I pretty much agree - this book is cotton candy for the mind. I didn't pick up the "dangerous" feel to it but that could be because I'm so very far past high school. And the sparkly skin made me giggle. What the heck!

Edited to say that I loved it. It's not a deep read, but gosh it was fun.

Like... all the parts where he's all "I'm going to hurt you and I can't help it"? Even though he doesn't, the threat is explicit and textual.

I read that as a metaphor for adolescent boys having trouble controlling themselves sexually, but I'm old>.

I guess I'm lumping abuse and rape in the same category, trumped by the fact that he's like 100 years old and she's so very, very weak willed.

I got over the OMG HE IS ANCIENT statutory-rape thing with the whole Buffy/Angel deal, I think. :/

It's the combination here is what I'm trying to say. I don't have a problem with the age thing. But the age + the "Imma eat you" + "I'm a naive girl with low self-esteem who can't resist you at all" arouses my suspicion.

Granted, Angel, Spike and Edward are all examples of arrested development, which I guess is really what this vampire thing is all about, but like I said all those factors combined made me feel weird.
