I am surprised, actually, that it took the squirrels this long. Granted, this could be merely the first time I've caught them, but judging from the amount of seed I usually have to replenish, it couldn't have been happening long.
Don't get me wrong; he'd tear it into a bloody pulp if he could, and on a straightaway he'd win. And actually, now that he knows it's there? I'm not taking any chances anymore. I really *don't* need him to learn the joys of tearing flesh.
No, I know. It's the vision of him trying. Some dogs try so hard even when it's so inevitable they'll fail. And it's at stuff like...chasing squirrels.
My parents had a dog once that would chase cars going the opposite way while *in* their station wagon. Ouch.
Another dog chased squirrels all the time, and it was totally hopeless. But now, with this dog who runs as fast as I've ever seen a dog run (that wasn't a greyhound), it's less cute.

I couldn't believe it when I walked into the living room and saw it totally filling the feeder. It's completely squirrel-sized.

As is this: They're people too
As is: counting on Mr. Darcy's inability to catch it. I was right.
