Wow. Just... wow. That was the best concert I've ever been to. I went to the
Dead Can Dance concert tonight (along with a good chunk of the dinnergroup), and it was gorgeous. Partial credit goes to the venue - Strathmore, which has terrific acoustics. Combine those acoustics with a group (a large group! I counted 10 people on stage) of really good musicians and singers, and the result is magical. They paid more attention to the quality of the sound than most bands I've heard, and the music and voices just poured over us in waves and resonated through the hall. Other than instruments, it was fairly low-tech. The only special effects were lighting, which was very well synchronized with the music, even to the point of changing with drumbeats. I wasn't the only one spellbound - the entire audience was rapt and silent during the songs, then cheering madly in between songs. The set was a good mix of songs from various albums, including my favorite three from Into the Labyrinth.
The best part - the show was recorded. In about a month, I will have a cd so I can listen to that over and over again.
To my friends - it was lovely to see you. Special thanks go to the ticket-purchasing goddess
tirani, who wrangled 4th row seats for us, just stage left of center.
I'm going back to afterglow now. I still have his voice echoing in my head.
