UPDATE: The SPAM is gone and it now lists a new maintainer of mejane_83, problem solved.

With the recent spike in Bot based SPAM advertising, here and in other communities, I feel it is necessary to bring up the subject of moderation / maintenance.

Our maintainer / moderator lagnolalia has long since abandoned regular use of LJ. I have, as others have here, sent requests to this individual requesting intervention on behalf of the community to remove the SPAM from our pages. This has not happened, not in a very long time.

I've perused the FAQs and, pursuant to #221, I have sent a request to LJ Support requesting the maintainer / moderator capabilities be transfered to an active user. I realize by initiating this I am the likely choice for transfer. Still, I feel it necessary to point out this request as I deem it prudent to have at least a contactable maintainer in the event of situations such as this.

IF, maintenance is transfered to me I do not expect to change anything beyond the following:

1) Removal of SPAM entires
2) Banning of bots or repeat SPAM offenders
3) Removal of all deleted and purged names from the 'friends of' listings

I have no interest in moderating entries or approving membership, but neither do I wish to see this community suffer for the presence of algorithms (bots) which do nothing but disrupt our love/hate relationship musings with our fuzzy demons. (Now if mine would get his claws out of my leg...)

IF, there is no possibility of transferring maintenance, then the question arises, should be create a new community with the sole purpose of replacing this one with a community which entails an active maintainer / moderator, such that SPAM is minimized.
