I bought two Seventh Generation recycled paper towels today; the jumbo roll unbleached ones.  I told Mike we can use them for napkins or to clean up animal messes, but to please use the reusable cloths I bought for general cleaning purposes.  The paper towels were actually on sale and it made them cheaper than the jumbo roll of name-brand regular ( Read more... )

I used to use sooo many paper towels (I thought it was a great idea several years ago to clean the hen house floor every morning with an enzyme cleaner and lots of paper towels!) Now, I can't even remember when I last bought any, they are a treat :) We have lots of rags - some for the extra yucky and some for the not so yucky.
If you use trash bags, have you ever bought Seventh Generation's recycled plastic bags? I did a few weeks ago and have been pleased.

Re. soda - ugh, what a challenge giving up caffeine can be. I had an awful trial with this about a year ago. I will occasionally have a sip of soda now, or a bite of chocolate - but I feel yucky afterwards.

Well, we've had the roll that I bought for 2 weeks now and it's hardly gotten any smaller. I think I can wean us off them eventually. My husband was concerned about how we'd go about cleaning up cat messes if we had no paper towels. How do you do it? Rags? I do have some rags now that I use for general cleaning.

I mostly gave up soda for the chemicals and the calories. I did have a withdrawl period for sure though. I've even gotten off the gatorade now and am drinking tea mostly. Still caffeinated but so much less!

Yea, rags, ick. Fortunately any cat accidents tend to be on the tile. You can actually use a little dust pan and a big plastic putty knife and push it into the dust pan..kinda weird to describe, but then dispose of the bulk of it that way. I do have some rags just for this too though. I bought a piece of bulk discounted fleece and cut it into sections, works pretty well. Then I keep a bucket to toss yucky rags in to deal with later in the day.

Yea, soda is nasty stuff. I have awful hives if I consume anything with corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup. Plus I was really addicted to caffeine, would get terrible headaches w/o it and was always tired and could hardly get through the day. Was a tough one to break! Do you have a favorite tea?

Well the putty knife/dust pan thing makes sense. It was the bulk of it that I was worried about. I will buy/make more rags I think.

Wow, I haven't heard of an allergy to HFCS. I knew it was bad stuff though. I would like to get into organic teas, but we have a big collection of Celestial right now and that's what I've been drinking. I like Tension Tamer a lot, and also this Chocolate Caramel Chai they have. Yum.

It took me a long time to figure out the allergy, I think I finally made the connection when I started cutting out my soda intake. I think other things trigger it, stress too. I was told it is dermographism which makes sense: http://www.dermographism.com/Dermographism/About.html The occurrence is just drastically reduced when I don't consume HFCS.
