I got about an hour into NWN2 yesterday and I was not blown away. It's similar enough to the first one that I'm sure it'll do well with hardcore fans, but my initial impression is that this sequel lacks imagination and inspiration. It hasn't done a whole lot to reinvent itself and, as a result, it feels a bit stale at first glance. The graphic engine has been updated, but runs sluggish even on my system and doesn't really look that good. It's certainly no Oblivion looks-wise. The combat action is exactly how you remember it from the first game. The single-player campaign, as highly-anticipated as it apparently was, feels strangely familiar as they go through all of the standard genre conventions to get you boot-strapped to a level where the action can actually start.
My initial verdict is - if you got everything you wanted out of NWN1, don't bother with the 2nd one. If you crave more of that action - go for it.
My prediction: this game will burn bright for a short while and then fade into obscurity never knowing the long-term community success that the first one enjoyed.
