Just polished off American Gods, by Neil Gaiman. I'm a fan of Gaiman in general, ever since Sandman. The first novel of his that I read, Neverwhere, really caught my attention and since then I've kept an eye out for his work. A few weeks ago, I tore through Good Omens (a collaboration with Terry Pratchett) and moved right into American Gods. I'd read somewhere that this book was actually an idea he came up with when developing his newset novel, Anansi Boys (which I also just picked up). I enjoyed American Gods a lot. It was rife with Gaiman's oddness. It has some thematic similarities to his other works but takes place in modern-day North America, a setting I haven't visited with Gaiman yet. My only complaint about this book is that it's probably 100 pages longer than it needs to be. It doesn't really drag, per-se, but looking back it seems like there is a bit of chaff that could have been cut away. Still, it's a good story told with skill and style. Definitely worth the read. 4/5.
In the background, I'm installing "Black & White 2" which looks like it might be fun. Despite the rave reviews, I never played the first one. We'll see how this one turns out. Hopefully it keeps me occupied until Civ 4 hits shelves in a few weeks.
Oh! And I almost forgot. I got a bunch of stuff in the mail today. My pwn-star hoodie and LFG hat in one package. And my set of B5 starters. I can finally indoctrinate my friends in the fine arts of the Babylon 5 CCG. Mwahahaha!
