This is an old classic (and not as finicky as my last one in that it's a truly workable solution that applies to real life--none of that junk about relying on humans to be intelligent).
In the attic you have 3 light bulbs. In the basement, you have 3 light switches. You have as much time as you like. Your task is to figure out which light switches correspond to which attic lights. The trick? You only get to go up to the attic *one time* to figure out all three lights.
(The light switches, while strangely wired so far from the bulbs, are wired properly so that when the switch is off, the bulb is off--your electrician was apparently crazy, but competent)
