Medicaid is bloody retarded. At some point in time, one of their rocket scientists determined that it would be perfectly fine for them to have a standard of refusing coverage for dosages of sertraline measuring less than 100mg. Generally this pill is manufactured in an oblong form and serrated. I suppose they assumed this would absolve them of any potential titration issues.
I wonder who forgot to mention that the starting dose for many indications of this drug is 25mg?
I was not at all impressed when I tried to fill my new prescription- for 75mg/day- today and the pharmacist tried to convince me it was reasonable to take 3/4 of a tablet per day. That would have been three quarters of an oblong fucking pill. I will note here that I actually had been attempting to quarter 100mg tabs when I first started this medication. Not only only is this a trying task to accomplish safely first thing in the. . . well, when I wake up, but it's also something that cannot be done with any degree of accuracy.
Yes, I have a pill splitter. It's simply not possible to quarter an oblong pill evenly.
But, hey- it's only the SSRI with the 2nd shortest half-life on the market, right? What could possibly go wrong?
