Yeah It's Overwhelming, But What Else Can We Do?

Did anyone else know that Chuck Palahniuk came out with a new book? It's called Pygmy. Mom and Harley saw it at Target today and thought I would be interested, so they bought it. But I was really surprised! I haven't heard anyone talk about it. But whatever. The way he writes is only slightly hard for me to follow (it's like reading Engrish ( Read more... )

FUCK HOLY HELL I HAD NO IDEA PYGMY WAS OUT ASKLJFALFJ! Ordering that business off of Amazon ASAP. I've been a huge Palahniuk fan for the past four years, but Snuff made me want, almost, to rob him of his writing ability. It was awful. Here's hoping he gets over his whole "I'M GOING TO SEE IF I CAN TOP MYSELF AT BEING EXPLOITATIVE AND GROSS" deal and write a decent novel again.

I was gonna go out and buy Snuff when it first came out, but then I read your entry on it and decided it probably wasn't worth it. T-the reason why I didn't even know about Pygmy, really, was because I figured you would mention any of Palahniuk's new books, so I never thought to check. I have become slightly dependant on you, Kei. ):

Also, the premise of Pygmy sounds way better than Snuff's. Like I said, though, the writing style is sliiiiiiiiiiightly confusing.

"Host mother present as blinking chicken, chin of face bony sharp as beak, chin tucking and swivel to turn, never still, chicken mother say, "Look at you!" Face exploded in silent screaming of wide-open lips and teeth, pointy tongue, eyebrows jumping into chicken forehead. Bony claws of chicken mother, gripping each this agent hands, mother lifts to spread arms too high on top this agent head. Spreading operative me so open, exposed, host mother say, "Look how skinny!""

. . . Yeah.

No, it wasn't worth it all. I think I mentioned Pygmy once, like, a few months after Snuff came out, but I kind of forgot about it, and now it's suddenly out! We were both caught off guard!

Man, that's trippy. I hope the story makes up for his more abstract, Beat Generation-esque writing style, since his characteristic minimalist writing style is what got me into his works in the first place. You can still see his normal style shining through this Navajo Code Language if you....squint...
