so it's not so much that i called in "sick," but rather that i called in "holy shit, i woke up at 4:30 with my back killing me, i'm still a little sore and friggin exhausted." i slept funny. back didn't like it. weird part is, i always sleep on my right side, but ever since i got inked, i keep waking up on my back. not pleasant when my shirt sticks to me. i wonder if my body isn't subconsciously trying to protect the "damaged" skin. and when my back hurts like that, laying on my back is the best thing. i fought it for a little while because of the tat, but then gave up because back pain sucks. also took some naproxen. mmm, naproxen. it's apparently an anti-inflammatory, but i swear it has more of a muscle relaxant effect on me. whatever it's doing, it's quite nice.
had to call to ask to have my driving instructor pick me up at home today (he usually picks me up at work). am slightly annoyed at S, speaking of... we were planning to go to Sleepy Hollow tonight for a Samhain event, and S bought the tickets for the 6pm tour... my lesson *ends* at 6. and then she tells me she should have gotten tix for 8:30 anyway because that would have worked better for her. wtf, then? ::shakes head:: people make no sense. tix are not exchangable or refundable, so i hope she can find someone else to go with her.
Samhain party at K's on saturday. she wants me to bring jello shots lol. i'm looking forward to it. i will, however, also be bringing a change of clothes in case my bodice gets to be too much on me.
i have a feeling i'm going to be bored today. but you know what? i've needed a day off. i've taken a couple hours here and there lately for things like dental appointments and going to the DMV, but i've started to feel burnt out. i'm reasonably caught up, would have been very nicely caught up if i went in today, so no one should have room to say anything about it, esp. since lorraine has been short on work and has been doing my final checking. all the less for me! plus there are charts she can put in order, too, if she likes.
ok, my brain's all over the place. prolly because i haven't blogged much lately. last night we (myself, K, B and S) went to the haunted mansion thingie up in poughkeepsie. it was a special event night, which turned out to be a mini-ghost-tour around the grounds rather than going into the mansion. it was, frankly, rather lame. nothing scary at all, and some of the stories were ones that anyone's heard a thousand times (Headless Horseman, the one about the guy who picks up the girl on the side of the road and brings her to a dance, goes back to the house the next day, talks to her mother, finds out the girl died years ago).
K had a death grip on my arm the whole time and i'm surprised i have any function left today. they offered pie and coffee at the end, and the wandering minstrel who'd been walking with us sang "Zombie Jambouree." one of our counselors at band camp was in an acapella group and they performed that song for us a few times, so i immediately got all excited and started singing along. next thing, B, S and i were all dancing in the middle of the crowd, while K stood a few feet away and hid her face lol.
when that was over, we went to B&N for the remaining hour and change that they were open. i got "The Feckin' Book of Everything Irish," consisting of a list of rather colorful idioms and their meanings. i plan to get a book about Chrismukkah next time. it was truly brilliant. if nothing else, the idea of strip dreidl amuses me.
