It seems that All Souls' Day is today - I thought it was the day before All Saints' Day rather than the day afterwards. Ah well, please virtually transpose my last posting to this one. It's the thought that counts. And there's not a day that I don't think of them, anyway.
My friend Jon came around, finally, yesterday, to sort out my wireless re-router problems and to fit a new sound card. I've got sound! He also got rid of the annoying squealing noise the computer was making when the fan was running slowly - now I've got to be careful about burning smells and to react immediately to a squeal in future - turn off everything straight away or my computer and anything/one in the vicinity joins Owen in melt-down.
My scanner and camera are also again recognised as existing. Apparently I had the wrong power cable attached to the scanner. Fussy little buggers these computers, aren't they?
I had a great e-mail from my beta
thismaz about the clean, final version of the latest Ripper Files story we'd been working on. I'm looking forward to posting it but I really want to get Haunted finished first. At least, I think I do. This new story comes at the beginning of the Files so there's no real reason why I shouldn't post it straight away, it's just that if it piques people's interest to read more I'd like to think that Haunted was complete for them to go on to. There's really only one more chapter needed to complete it - all I need is one good day. The trouble is that, when I think about it, more and more ideas try to sneak in and I can see the possibility of its extending into two additional chapters... I need to stop prognosticating and just get on with writing it. Anyone got one good day to spare?
I'm now going to celebrate having sound back by listening to my CDs of
Old Harry's Game.
