He let a room above the Leaky Cauldron, working days in a used bookshop and spending his nights reading and smoking too much, except, of course, for the full moon nights. Those he's forced to spend in a Ministry detention center for werewolves, where young healers are dispatched to practice with little supervision and worse results. Luckily for Remus, he meets Damocles, a sympathetic young man three years his elder with kind brown eyes and gentle hands who talks to Remus about books and music as he treats the worst of Remus' wounds, healing more than just broken skin and bone. Their affair won't last more than that summer--Damocles is headed to Glasgow to study with a great Potionmaster, and though he asks Remus to join him, it's clear who owns Remus' heart when Sirius arrives back in town. Still, Damocles never forgets his first real love and the memory of it spurs him on to his greatest achievement.
