Since my trip to AZ at the beginning of March, I have been in touch with my mother. After 15 years of not seeing or hearing from her, I felt I was ready to make a move that I hoped would lead to a healthy, loving mother-daughter relationship. Much to my surprise and happiness, things have gone very well so far. We e-mail often and exchange the details of our lives. It wasn't until earlier this week, however, that I heard (or read actually) what I've needed to know for a long time now. To quote the e-mail directly, she wrote, 'P.S. - In reference to the last email that you sent, you mentioned that you hoped I would "like you". Marissa, I gave birth to you...you are loved and not just "liked".' She loves me -- if I'm not on cloud nine right now, then I don't know where I am. :)
