Yet another step backwards

By this time, you'd think that nothing this EC did would surprise me.  Well, they have.  Words are just not adequate to describe my disappointment in our leadership.

It's a damn shame, really, and just goes to prove that vendetta is in full effect.

You can blame that on me - I was the one who introduced the amendment. It was thought that, having a three year term would give the sitting CS time to set things in place and make some real progress. Match that with the accompanying rule that you can't have two consecutive terms and it took all of the political posturing out of the office.

You see, it used to be that a CS would get into office in January. By March or so, things were settled in and the right people were in the right places. Things were good for a few months and then thoughts started turning to the next election. If the sitting CS wanted to run again, plans were already started by the end of the first year. By the end of the 1st quarter of the next year, a lot of time was spent on the reelection plans. By June, the CS was in full election mode. This took away from the time he/she could spend on actually doing the job. Fleet ended up with about 3 months of dedicated attention and the rest of the time was spent setting up or getting ready for the next term. So, I proposed a 3 year term with no consecutive terms.

Since a sitting CS couldn't run for a consecutive term, they wouldn't spend most of their second year prepping and campaigning. It would allow them to pay attention to the office. It sounded great on paper.

But, then again, I never envisioned an administration worse than Dan's.

I guess I was wrong on both points.

ok, that explains the 3 year term.

so what is needed to reverse it?

go back to a 2 year term and that one person can NOT serve consecutive terms (and no fancy having someone else running as CS with them as vice only to have the elected CS step down)

Les was a special case as he would have won the election if he wasn't distracted by very underhanded backstabbing.

as much as people refuse to be IN the 21st century, I feel comparing the CS to at least Trimaris' king is appro. They CAN serve more than once BUT there is a reason why Baldar was called the on/off again King *g*

I'm not blaming you Mike; you had absolutely no concept that not one but two people would view the CS as not a way to better serve 'fleet but only as a way to build their own personal power base.

I just wish I could see a way out of this mess. Short of Sal resigning which he has stated will never happen.

I feel even more discouraged NOW than I did during the Mandy years.

after all, if 'fleet doesn't care about *me*, why should I care about *it*??
