Necessity...Inspiration...etc.
So Ian has these preschool workbooks we've been working out of that he loves. Well they came with some letter flashcards in them. And all of the sudden, out of no where, I had this idea. He would pick a word then we'd sing the "going on a bear hunt" song but substituted :
Going on a letter hunt,
gonna write a big word,
I'm not afraid,
what's that? (then pause for him to ID the letter, then we placed it on the table or if other letters in the word were down reviewed each of the letters)
Gotta keep going (or if it's the last letter we'd say what's that spell? and usually he'd remember what we were spelling and he'd say what it was then we'd cheer)
Yeah it's silly but man is he getting letters, sounds, and having a blast. Connor joined us after preschool and they've already asked to play several times today! Yeah they're way young to learn to spell but ya never know, word recognition is never a bad thing and they're having a blast! Isn't it weird the stuff you come up with on the fly because of kids?
