Tomorrow we're off to Barcelona for 5 days. We're supposed to have an internet connection where we're staying, so maybe I can keep you all updated. If not, I'll bring you up to date as soon as I can.
Also, K passed his big certificate exam today. OMG, the back story! The client requires that all people working on this contract have a certificate, and this was spelled out in the contract that was negotiated from March to Sept, signed in Sept and became effective Oct 1. This means that the company knew this would be needed as long ago as March. However, they didn't tell staff until mid Sept, when, oh, btw, you need to have it by Oct 31. Ack! Suddenly everyone was studying. Oh, but not during working hours, please. Those hours are for actually working. and BTW, here are some study materials. Oh, but they cost $150 and each employee has to pay out of his/her own pocket. (So some of them shared, of course. but not everyone, no, especially the boss.) And the certificate itself? for a part of the computer that NOT ONE of the staff actually works with, has ever worked with in the past or will ever work with in the future!
So K spent 4 hours every night and 8 hours on Sat and Sun studying, from Sept 15 until yesterday. About 140 hours, to learn something he will never need. AND btw, the client exempted him from needing it, but his company said he still had to get it.
Enough complaining! I didn't do the studying; I just missed him for the last month as he was shut up in the library or went back to work. Anyway, it's over and he passed and we can all go to Barcelona with a clean conscience and a happy heart!
