I've been sitting around eating bonbons and reading novels (and not too coincidentally, getting fat) for too long. I need to take some action!
This is partly brought on by D1's latest adventures. I was perfectly happy to basically do nothing but housewifery until I heard that D1 quit one of her part-time jobs on Tuesday because she was frustrated by managment, on Wednesday she was offered expanded hours at her other part-time job, and on Thursday she was offered another part-time job doing exactly what she wants to do. The universe is aligned in her favor!
So now I review my own employement situation and I'm not happy. My ducks are not in a row. Should I toddle up to the JAG office and see wtf is going on with my volunteer application? (yes) As far as I can tell, I have one other volunteer opportunity, at the library. I only have two employment options that do not involve weekend work: working with kids through Child Youth Services, like changing diapers at the CDC or afterschool programs for elementary schools, or working in the school cafeteria.
Good God. Working in the school cafeteria or changing diapers. After 30 years of environmental analysis, serving as CEO of a consulting firm and bringing home a 6 figure income, this is what I'm reduced to.
Now, feelings. In accordance with my new writing goal. I feel...... frustrated. Angry. Bemused. I scratch my little pointy head and wonder how the US government allows this to happen. I can add something of value to their operation, I could, I could. Yet, here I sit. All those DOD regulations and I cannot circumvent them. But somehow, I KNOW they can be massaged to allow me to work, I just don't know how. I'm missing the rule book to this game.
THIS IS SO MUCH BULLSHIT!!!!
Sigh.
Tomorrow I'll go over to the JAG office and see what's up. If there's some major problem with my volunteering, other than just sheer inertia from the legal office, then I'll go over to the CPO and apply to wipe baby bottoms. At least the babies don't talk back.
