My friend Garry and I went to Otakon for several hours on Saturday at the Baltimore Convention Center, this massively huge building, @.@, of course getting there was another journey in itself as we got turned around at least once trying to get there, him and his stupid GPS system XD.
Now neither of us were really prepared for Otakon, this is at least his 6th or 7th time going, but he was pretty broke..and I never have been before, so of course I had no money for it, but lucky me, he really wanted me to go so he paid for my entry. $65 X.X, I'll pay him back when I get paid.
We got there and first thing we did was basically explore, we saw tons of cosplayers naturally, and there were several rooms which played anime movies and episodes at different times, we missed some things on Friday like this Metal Gear panel he wanted to see, and Claymore played Friday night from Funimation. (I swear Funimation owns everything these days).
Well we did get to see some Hellsing..and Vampire Knight anime was playing when we left, there was "how to draw hentai" sections and other crazy panels that we didn't bother with, but it was funny to see.
What else, a huge floor for artwork, gothic..anime..video games..everything, some with crazy prices, some not so bad, if only I was properly prepared for Otakon with saved up $$$ and I would have walked away with a lot.
There was this one artist girl who drew girl anime chars like..really..really well, and I almost snagged a C.C. and Kallen posters from Code Geass, but then I'd have to explain why I have half naked animated women all on my walls, and I didn't feel like doing that XD, so I decided to be safe and got some still very nice looking Rukia and Ichigo art from Bleach.
Garry got a wall scroll from Code Geass, which he JUST got into, like..literately, I gave him 1-15 of season 2 and expected him to start with season 1, and if he liked it, he'd already have most of season 2, silly me, he started watching season 2 not knowing it was season 2, but he liked what he saw, so I created another convert to Geass (yay~), he also picked up a Avatar picture and a Link picture.
There was so much manga there naturally as well as plenty of anime dvd's to buy, along with imported DS, PSP, games, I don't know who'd pay for star ocean for the psp for 50 bucks imported when we can wait a few months and get the actual release here, but ah well.
There was also a huge gaming room with plenty of flatscreen's, which basically had every system you could think of, divided up into sections by Genre, there was First person shooters, Dance Dance Revolution..Guitar Hero and Rock Band areas..Imported fighting games, like one that had One Peice..versus DBZ..versus Naruto in the same game..@.@ which was awesome btw. I noticed that Rock Band had Singing parts in it too, which was really cool, and if you can put your own music into it..it may be worth the purchase for the new one, but having all those instruments is just a waste of space in my room.
I met a couple of people from High School, whom..I don't remember their names, but one of them remembered me, so I guess thats cool XD, I need to check my yearbook., anyways, we didn't stay too late, around 7 we decided to go instead of staying for the late night (basically hentai and really gory anime time) along with the Masquerade and Rave, we skipped out on, we both had headaches, most likely from lack of eating as we both had McD's for breakfest and that was IT all damn day, too expensive to eat up there.
Anyways..I had a fun time, my first Otakon, and it was great, adults..teens and younger all with shared interest is something else, always seems like I'm alone in my anime and game loving, but I'm obviously not XD, ah well, hopefully if we go next year we can properly save up money and not be walking around window shopping half the time.
I got a few pictures at my photobucket, you can check it out :)
