well....i now leave in 9 days for the Dominican Republic. If you didn't know, last summer i was a volunteer for an organiation named Amigos de las Americas. this organization sends high school and college students down to rural parts of latin america ot live in a community with 1 or 2 other partners for 8 weeks, asisting the community in implementing projects of differant sorts. this last summer i went down to paraguay for 8 weeks. in the town i was in, Ca'aguy Cupe, i worked at teh school and taught there. the experience was a mixed bag. while the first half i didn't enjoy that much, i absolutely loved teh second half. yet what mostly made me do it again thsi summer was the feeling that i got when i left my community after 2 months of being there. as i was leaving, a feeling of accomplishment came over me. i felt like i had done something that was completely worth my time and that i was doing something of note, some of importance with my life. this feeling was like nothing i had ever felt before and i probably could never describe to anyone.

anyways, this summer i'm going to the dominican republic. i now leave in 10 days (sorta 9, depending on how you count). i leave on the 15th of june and come back the 13th of august. i'm sort of unsure about how i feel. whereas last year right before i left iw as scared shitless, this year i'm unsure as to how i feel. on teh one hand i'm SO excited to have another experience (and hopefully a better one), i'm also afraid. i'm afraid of the bad feelings that ig ot last year. i'm afraid of missing my family again, of feeling unhappy, etc etc. i'm afraid of a lot of unknowns. yet i'm trying to stay positive and be excited about it

additionally, i'm really upset about having to elave all my friends this summer. while i was upset last summer also, the main reason i'm upset (and i believe i have legitamite reason to be so) this time around is because a lot of my friends are seniros and this is going to be their last summer at home before going to college. consequently, by the time that i get back, many of them will be leaving within days. i'm going to be missing out on a lot of time to hang out and get some last bonding in with these senior friends, and it's upsetting to me.

also, i did this last year also, but i'm going to be able to recieve letters while there. last summer, recieving letters was absolutely the BEST thing in teh world. If you could, i would GREATLY appreciate it if you could write me a letter. even if i dont' know you that well, you can write me and i can write you back and we can bond over that. i will be able to write back, so we can create a little correspondence between us.

my adress there is:

Jason Bigman
Amigos de las Americas
c/o PLAN International
Calle Rosario #2, Urbanizacion Mirador Norte
Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana

the postage is about 80 cents. i'm not sure how long it takes for letters to get there, but i'm thinking not that long. if you were to send a letter tomorrow i would think it would get there either a little before or a little after from when i get there, so please start sending them as soon as possible if you do send one. and if you do write me i'll definitely write you back!!!!!

i'll post the adress again also right before i leave

:)
