Faith followed Cameron into the room, hanging back by the wall, watching as they poked and prodded and did God knows what else to Buffy.
“She's lost a lot of blood.” The nurse said. “I can't get these wounds on her neck to clot.”
Faith watched as the blonde doctor examined Buffy's neck. She saw Cameron furrow her eyebrows slightly.
“These look like puncture wounds...like...bite marks.” She said, almost to herself. She looked up and caught Faith's gaze. Faith found that she couldn't look away from the blonde's questioning eyes and it was Cameron who broke the eye contact first, resuming her examination of the bite.
'Shit,' Faith thought to herself. She knew bringing Buffy here was risky. Back in ole' Sunny-D they were used to this kind of thing. But here? New Jersey? Not so much.
“She's gonna need a transfusion.” Cameron said, leaving Buffy's side to write up a lab slip. “Take a blood sample and get it tested,” she said to one of the nurses.
“Take mine.” Faith said, pushing off of the wall she was leaning against. “We're the same, take my blood.”
“We don't know that you're a match.” Cameron said, as the nurse with Buffy's blood left the room.
“I do know!” She pulled up her sleeve, thrusting her arm towards Cameron. “Do it! She's dying.” Cameron looked steadily at the brunette, then grabbed a syringe, and an alcohol swab. She grabbed Faith's arm and quickly located a vein, before disinfecting the area and inserting the needle. Faith didn't move a muscle, her eyes trained on the blonde doctor in front of her who had seemed to put so much, she grinned ironically, faith in her, despite the fact that they'd met less than half an hour ago.
Cameron removed the needle and placed a cotton swab on the puncture wound. “Hold this here,” she said, waiting to remove her hand until Faith's had covered it. She filled a vial from the syringe and handed it to the other nurse. “Run this to the lab.” She said, handing it off. “Run, you hear me?” The nurse nodded and took off, leaving just Cameron and Faith in the room.
Faith couldn't stand all the beeps and clicks of the machines that they'd hooked Buffy up to, and trying to block it out with her thoughts wasn't working.
“So, what now?” She asked, breaking the human silence. Cameron looked Buffy over slowly.
“She seems to be stable for now. But if she doesn't get a transfusion in the next 24 hours...she'll die.”
