Year In Review 2005

Jan 01, 2006 23:06

Alriiight... time to dust off the ol' cobwebs and remember what the hell I actually accomplished this year. This template was taken from last year's Year in Review on December 19, 2004, which was supplied to me by my dear Laken Renick.

1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
January: Got so nervous about a girl that I shook. Got my license. Interviewed for a scholarship (actually, two, but only one really mattered) and failed.
February: My head was on the news. Got a failing grade on a paper and in general trouble for writing about how jazz relates to sex. Went on a dinner date for Valentine's Day that really wasn't a date. Wrote a letter to an out of state friend (Sophie Hood). Started purchasing CDs in mass quantity from amazon.com and BMG. Won Mr. Congieniality and Mr. Personality at the Mr. Bayside pageant. Played a gig at a coffee shop. Bought my first Stevie Wonder CD.
March: Used the word beauteous in a sentence. Saw David Fathead Numan in concert. Saw a real pimp and almost got run over by him. Played with the Kelley Music Jam Band. Had a crush on a black woman (aka Nadia Turner from American Idol). Got accepted into my first college (William and Mary).
April: Got into UVA. Won money for a scholarship essay I wrote.
May: Went to my first prom (Kempsville). SAW THE FINAL STAR WARS INSTALLMENT!!! Started reading Lonesome Dove... an 843 page book of pure horror (except for that it was good). Went to a few proms later (Cox, Bayside, PA).
June: Senior Recital at GSA (Nemesis - Eric Alexander). GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL. Had lunch made for me and almost got groped to death.
July: Bought my lovely Keilwerth SX 90 R Nickel Plated Tenor Saxophone. Surprise birthday cake from Becca and Joanna. Liz Winfield visited me.
August: Karaoke on the beach. Went to college. WARPED TOUR WOOHOO!!! (first time with Reggie and the Full Effect, Millencolin, etc.)

Sometime:
Talked on the phone in the shower (with Joanna).
Watched SLC Punk.
Saw Serenity, the Firefly movie.
Watched an entire season and a half of Lost.
Drank some interesting stuff at college.
Dean's List for my first semester.
Jones Soda Thanksgiving party.
Shot a shotgun.
Practiced Wushu.
Graveyard walk at midnight on Halloween.
Saw Tech beat UVA live.
Joined OYFA, the Organization for Young Filipino Americans, and did Culture Fest.
Voted.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't remember, but if getting a girlfriend was a resolution I fucking failed as hard as possible.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not this year.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No. Thank God she didn't.

5. What countries did you visit?
For the first time in three years I stayed strictly in America.

6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
Some good lovin. Starting to get serious about sax again.

7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Man, I should really remember what days Revenge of the Sith and Serenity came out... August 18th I left for college, though.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being successful in college thus far.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not winning the heart of Rebecca Hunter. And I think that it was last year, too, regardless if it was written at the time. And hell, I only got three kisses out of my damn Mistletoe Yankee Candle... the last of which was the most anticipated (Joanna) and also which was the one I had to initiate myself XD

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Hahaha. Yeah. Catepillar bites on the lawn at UVA. Black eye while playing with the Filipino club in basketball.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Keilwerth SX 90 RTenor Saxophone.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Susan Watkins. I missed out not hanging out with you for the past four years.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Holy shit, that fat bitch Elizabeth that I worked night shifts with over the summer.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Probably CDs again. Stevie Wonder wins this year.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
PROM. And all in all it wasn't as spectacular as I expected. Oh, and Star Wars. And Serenity!!!

16. What song will always remind you of 2005?
Journey songs because of the girl Kate that drove Joanna and me home from Kempsville's graduation. This question otherwise deserves contemplation.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Oh shit, I don't know. I was ecstatic about going out with Becca to see Phantom of the Opera at the end of last year, which was great, but... in general, either the same or happier because I'm more chill about relationships. Plus, my mom and I don't fight all of the time anymore.
ii. thinner or fatter? Probably the same. A little more muscular since I bought that Rec Card.
iii. richer or poorer? Heh, richer, but a hell of a lot poorer since college started.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Stayed in contact with HSD and USHSD friends. Praying.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Haha, again, worrying about girls the first half of the year.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Same as last year-- with family. In the beginning without Bobby or Sarah though...

21. What was the most embarrassing thing that happened to you in 2005?
Man, last year's embarassment lasts for two years. Fuck.

22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
How can I absolutely sure?

23. How many one-night stands?
None

24. What were your favorite TV programs?
Lost

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Hmmm... I don't think so. Although I still loathe Elizabeth from work.

26. What was the best book you read?
The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown. How cliche.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Cole Porter. Fenix TX's NEW live album. Mingus. Joe Lovano.

28. What did you want and get?
Sax.

29. What did you want and not get?
Girls. Haha, shit I feel SO EMO.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Serenity. SLC Punk. Revenge of the Sith.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
18. I bought a Playboy a couple of days later. But actually on my birthday I got my tenor in DC.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not working this summer, and having a girlfriend.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
Same Greg style. But I actually was attracted to Abercrombie jean jackets and muscle shirts for a couple of months, and bought a couple of nice shirts at the Express. Recently I bought an argyle sweater. Ah, and the $5 punk jacket that I bought from the thrift store and the waffle undershirts rose up at the end of the year.

34. What kept you sane?
Breathing.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
The guy who writes Lost (haha, shows you how much I care) because of the show and Ultimate Hulk vs Wolverine. And hey, Joss Whedon brought Firefly back for one last ride through the 'Verse. Thanks.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Uh. Researching candidates to vote for.

37. Who did you miss?
Friends from VA Beach when I went to college and vice versa.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
That's REALLY hard. Brandon, Drew, and Roy are my best guy friends at college, though.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005.
Evie from UVA told me that she has lots of girl friends so that she doesn't get raped when she's "DRRRRRRRUNK!". Sounds pretty good to me.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Don't you forget about me." - Simple Minds
