So I stayed up all night last night in order to go to court this morning to face the grave punishment for the equally grave crime of having 9 people at my house eating fondue. Why stay up all night? Because i knew there was no way i could wake up by 8am, and i also thought it might help to be bleary and half asleep at court.
The courtroom was this cheesy little annex with some wood benches, a podium, a judge, and a lady who was pretending to be a stenographer, (but I happen to know that you can't do that by leaning your head on your shoulder and typing with one finger, so i don't know who she thought she was fooling.) The docket this morning was 4 noise violations, a driving with suspended license, and one urinator in public, who didn't speak English so that was an awkward proceeding. The judge has to read this whole rigmarole for each of us about "do you understand your rights" and " if you stand mute a plea will be entered for you" and all this crap. . . . . . up until this point I had been feeling really jilted by the system but seeing this poor judge, well he definitely has the worst, most depressing job in the world and he had to go through law school to get it, so I started to feel so much better. . . strange kind of empathy I have.
Anyway, paid my $150 bucks, got some sleep, and now i am fully reformed and rehabilitated
