Caribbean Part 1 - El Yunque

Mar 12, 2017 20:49

I've been terrible remiss with posting, mostly because it takes a bit to curate photos that are fun, etc. My apologies. (Not that anyone cares, but hey!)

Anyway, almost as soon as we started dating, KP invited me on a Caribbean cruise that he had tickets for. It would be easy to get me on the docket, it just involved a flight to Puerto Rico, hey, it was the Caribbean! What's not to like?

Admittedly, I'm not the biggest fan of sun (it burns, it burns!) and I tend to prefer soaking in the culture of a place to soaking in the sun. But hey! Cute guy? Gorgeous scenery! I'd do this!

So over Thanksgiving, we flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico, then went on a 7 day cruise. ^_^ It was fun!

Anyway, we gave ourselves an extra day in Puerto Rico, which allowed us to explore El Yunque, the only tropical forest national park in the US (supposedly...I keep thinking Hawaii? But...eh....) as well as the smallest US national park. It was about an hour out of San Juan, so was *perfect*!

Anyhow, pictures!

We *cough, cough, I* drove along a few intrastates to the forest and almost immediately hit La Coca Falls, a very scenic waterfall.

Me in front of La Coca, looking...well, actually very red headed. I'm not sure what has happened to my hair.

The other side of La Coca. It's so verdant!

We next drove along to the Tower, which looks...well, like a tower. You climb up about five stories and get a great view.

Seriously, though, a great view.

KP also looked as fabulous as ever.

We got back on the road and drove to La Mina Falls. It was perhaps an easy mile hike that was made a bit more difficult by the heat and humidity. It ended at a fantastic waterfall that was perfect for swimming in.

La Mina, the best swimming hole of Puerto Rico, apparently!

There was even a rock that all the young men kept climbing on and jumping off of. It looked amazing. Yet, alas, I hadn't researched it well enough, so we didn't have our swim suits...which meant that we just watched, enjoyed cooling off in the mist, and eventually left to hike our way back to Old San Juan.

TBC...
