A step in a strange direction

I don't know what to expect of this new job opportunity. I guess I should be lucky that SOMEONE is interested. With how shitty this economy is and all, the retail jobs are going up in smoke and the cushy desk jobs are even more elusive. I've tried my hand at online job sites and even temp companies with almost zero feedback. I doubt I'm doing things wrong on my end... It's all a big mess. I've never had so much trouble trying to find a crappy part-time job! After a year and few nibbles, it really gets me down.

But Kelly, one of Richard's innumerable friends, had mentioned that her club was always in need of another waitress. It was pretty easy work with great tips, she said, as she had done it a couple years back. We were on our way to a pumpkin patch at the time so I said I'd think about it.

We gave her a lift back to her house after the haunted corn maze but as it was early enough, she decided to go into work and offered to introduce me to her manager. I had no other options and I wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth with it sitting in front of me, all nicely packaged. I hopped out of the car and wandered inside with my mud stained boots and heavy jacket on. The girls looked very calculating, I noticed. The manager was all smooth talk and casual disinterest. I filled out the required paperwork quickly but before I could run back out, Kelly wanted to take me on a quick tour of the main room to introduce me. I found it amusing, to say the least. I was as affable as could be and everyone was nice in return. I figure if I play the dumb girl card (as I usually am apt to) then no one will consider me a threat and let me slip to the side, unobserved and unsuspected.

Anyway, that was back in mid-October. It's now December 1st and I received word that Kelly's boss wanted to talk to me. I was rather surprised, as it's been long enough that I thought for sure they'd tossed my application. I called up the office and spoke to an underling for a quick minute to schedule an interview. Tonight at 6pm. And just checking over my Facebook, Richard left me a good luck reminder, followed by Kelly saying that I might want to show up in work uniform since they're short-handed. God. I'm nervous about this stupid job working out. I need cash, and if this is the only way I'm going to get it, then fuck off. I have a job to do.

Hustle, hustle. Make that money. No time to go soft.
