On a whim, I tried out a fairly recent J-drama,
Absolute Boyfriend, which I would now like to recommend. It's not a very original plot, a robot created to serve as the perfect boyfriend and is sent out into the field to be tested with an old-fashioned chaste-type girl, one who is not particularly pretty, or successful, and is mostly invisible -- but the calibre of acting in this soap is high enough to make me frequently forget it's fiction and I've been watching all the episodes at a frantic pace. Without even watching the end yet, and with 2 eps to go I'm still not sure how it's going to end, I can still say it's very enjoyable.
I was also very happy with the anime Strawberry Panic that I recently finished, it had a satisfying ending and enough depth to carry 26 episodes even though it seemed shallow at first. Very good shoujo-ai.
The second season of Vampire Knight, Vampire Knight Guilty just started, and it certainly hasn't disappointed. They've slightly stepped up the animation quality AND the writing quality which were both already really good. If it stays at this level, I can say this is my favorite anime ever.
The fall season of anime seems to especially jam-packed with good stuff - there's the second season of Rosario to Vampire, Penguin Musume Heart (I believe Junjou Romantica as well), and I'm already sampling a slew of stuff including Earl and Fairy, ToraDora (Tiger and Dragon), Black Butler, Shikabanehime Aka, Gu Rei Zero, Kurozuka, Yakushiji Ryoko No Kaiki Jikenbo, and Kyou no Go no Ni.
