Title: Rebecca
Author: Daphne du Maurier
Summary/Buy me: Here!
Genre: gothic fiction
Pages: 357
Rating: A
Notes: As a general rule, I do not buy books. Among the dozen or so that I own, half of them are plays by Shakespeare, the others childhood favorites that I do not bother to read again. This book, however, is worth owning. The story is a union of Charlotte Brontë's gothic Jane Eyre and Nabokov's girl-child heroine of Lolita. Generally, this means May/December romance between a tall, dark, and emo hero and his idiot child-bride, wrapped lovingly in the peculiar rhyme and rhythm of 19th c. Brit Lit. What's not to love?
