This is so interesting. One of the funniest pieces of fanfiction I've ever read was written in the style of an Infocom (?) text adventure game, and since then I've always been kind of curious about the genre, but I didn't think you could actually GET these games any more.

This looks like a good place to start, though! Thank you.

I am all for spreading for the love of IF! A lot of people remember Infocom text adventures fondly but are really surprised to learn that the amateur interactive fiction community produces around 40 or 50 new games a year, give or take a dozen! And the amateur games are really *good*, some of them even better than the professional ones.

(Oh, also, I took down the link to Photopia because it has some puzzles I forgot about, and one of them is a killer, so, just to warn you.)

I tried to do the IF for HGTG in high school, and I couldn't get past the first line! I'm terrible at that kind of problem-solving. But this is a great post nonetheless.

Oh, man, HGTG is really quite a tough game. I knew someone who kept trying to play it and who kept getting stuck in the first scene. Personally, I kept getting killed in the second scene before I could get the babel fish.

If you'd like to give IF another try, both Dreamhold and Goose Egg Badger are much easier games!

Oh man, I totally had no idea there were more of these besides, like, Zork and the Hamlet game and stuff. Good stuff. Too bad I suck at puzzles. **can't figure out how to get the green mask in Dreamhold**

Solving for YOU! ♥ To get the green mask, do you have the freezing (white) berries? You'll need those. They're growing on a bush above the Dim Shed area, and you'll need to handle them with a glove on. Then you need to cross the frozen river ("cross river") and take the mask.

Otherwise, try typing "help hint" if you get stuck, or feel free to ask me! I'm on AIM as mutecornett or you could email me or whatnot--I'm always available for IF hints. And if the other masks in Dreamhold are eluding you and you want to put it away for a bit, try Goose Egg Badger (which is just fun and not too puzzley) or Metamorphoses (which has multiple ways of solving everything), and definitely take a peek at the walkthroughs on Baf's Guide if you get really, frustratingly stuck. There's no shame in that! I do it occasionally. *shifty eyes* Maybe more than occasionally.

And if you ever want more IF recommendations of a certain type, PLEASE ASK. I am so glad that you are liking these IF entries. ♥
