i was shuffling through some new lyrics to see if a song would rear its head when i began playing "tiara," an old shelved song instead. i didn't intend to revise it, but the phrasing of the new lyrics fit it so well that i decided to give the old tune a facelift. the original version of "tiara" is over four years old, written as one part love letter, one part fairy tale. this new version is all fairy tale romance.
this song features two vocalists. supporting vocals are in parentheses.
I’ve been waiting for you
You are the queen
You can let your hair down
You’ll still be queen
I’ve been waiting for you to come home
You are the queen
The pillow’s been waiting for your crown
So just lay your head down
Each time I see you walk through that door
(Climb the stairs--it’s to your left)
It comes to me I’ve missed you more
(With every passing moment)
I know what we have is hard to endure
(The vows made when our lips met)
But trifles are worth it, I assure you
For when you step down from your throne
(And when we’re all alone)
Love is the only thing left between us.
They'll hold a ticker tape parade
For you, my queen
Of men in line to take my place
You are the queen
In years to come, you'll break a smile
You are the queen
And speak of me as a passerby (that you met, that you knew) who courted you
While you were queen
Each time I saw you walk through that door
(Climbed the stairs--it was to your left)
It came to me I’d missed you more
(With every passing moment)
I know what we had was hard to endure
(The vows made when our lips met)
But the trifles were worth it, I assure you
For when you stepped down from your throne
(And we were all alone)
Love was the only thing left between us
Each time I saw you walk through that door
(Climbed the stairs--it was to your left)
It came to me I’d missed you more
(With every passing moment)
I know what we had was hard to endure
(The vows made when our lips met)
But the trifles were worth it, I assure you
For when you stepped down from your throne
(And we were all alone)
Love was the only thing left between us
For when you stepped down from your throne
(And we were all alone)
Love was the only thing left between us
One day you’ll abdicate your throne--
Memories will surface on their own--
And you’ll see
There will be
Nothing left between us
