Man, I suck at keeping a journal. It's just really hard for me to air out my day-to-day happenings on the internet when, by the time I go online, I've already aired them out with people in my physical world. I mean, call it laziness if you like, but if I've already hashed out and exhausted a subject with my roommate, it just seems tedious to set it down on page.
But oh well. Here's the skinny on my recent doings. MACBETH has mercifully wrapped up and passed into the annals of KSU Theatre history and I am eternally grateful. Just a critical paper and an original play script left and my semester is over (well, and wrapping up the classes I'm teaching)!
My living situation in Kansas City, after some permutations, has begun to take shape. The initial plan was one born of serendipitous circumstance. I ran into Mary, an old acquaintance of mine, out at the bars. We were excited to see each other and I filled her in on my new job in KC. She informed me that her younger sister, Cindy, was living in KC, so I asked her if they'd do me a favor and keep their ears to the ground about living situations because I was looking for a place to live. Mary erupted with enthusiasm and informed me that Cindy had been looking to take on a roommate herself. This thrilled me since Cindy and I go way back, having been friends since we were college freshmen in Vocal Performance together. We had lost touch, which was a shame because we had some great times together: sitting in Styles I (Music Theory) together, taking embarrassing pictures of her on her twenty-first birthday, even giving her a few lessons on the guitar. Several years back, I actually considered starting a band with her as the lead vocalist. At any rate, I was stoked and called Cindy up. Thankfully, she was ecstatic about the prospect of living with me. We worked out the details and she even started shopping for two bedroom apartments with me. Then it happened. Opportunity struck for her, just as it had for me this summer. She was offered a chance to do missionary work in Mexico.
Cindy called, telling me that she had good and bad news for me. Feeling horrible, she delivered the bad news - her opportunity in Mexico - which meant I would have to look for another place to live. But then she followed it up by saying that the last thing she wanted to do was leave me in the lurch, so she explained her good news: she went out and found me a place to live. Her old college roommates, Kayleen and Emily, were living in a three bedroom house in northern Kansas City, which was about the same distance away from the Unicorn Theatre as where Cindy and I were going to live. She told me that they were willing to take on a roommate. She had called them up, reminding them of me and explaining my situation, and asked if they'd be comfortable living with me. They were graciously supportive of the idea and told her to go ahead and offer their extra bedroom to me.
I've since called Kayleen and had a nice chat with her. I'll be going up to take a look at the house after finals and make a final decision on whether or not I'll move in with them after that. I've lost the opportunity to live with an old friend, but gained the chance to make two new ones. Despite the change in plans, I'm not crestfallen at all; I can't wait to move to Kansas City and I don't know what could happen to deflate the excitement pulsing through me right now.
PS: I'm drunk again, if anyone's keeping track. Half a bottle of Johannesburg Riesling and about six or seven (?) Caribou Lou's a.k.a. Malibu + pineapple juice. Mmmm...
