Comfort Level
Playing edgy, tough guy John has been a thrill for Michael Easton. But the actor says that his alter ego is very atypical compared to many other soap characters of today. Daytime is good at doing terrific guys. They're handsome, rich and charming, and its good to have that fantasy male guy, but that's not who John is, and I wouldn't be good at playing that guy," confesses Easton, noting that he's aware that McBain is by no means perfect, especially given how he often shuts down. "I give the audience a lot of credit, because he's not an easy character to like," he says, pointing out that like John, he has had difficulty expressing his emotions. "That's how I started writing in the first place, because I couldn't say anything verbally." However, there is one way in which Easton draws the line between himself and his alter ego: "I've never saved anybody!"
