Play reading planned by New Stages Feb. 10
Posted By WERNER BERGEN

Warkworth actors Tom McCamus and Chick Reid take to the lounge at Showplace Peterborough to read Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Edward Albee's The Goat, or Who Is Sylvia? It's part of the New Stages play reading series called The Page on Stage. The play won the Tony Best Play award, best play awards from the New York Critics Circle, the Outer Critics Circle and the Drama Desk. It's about a man turning 50. Despite his winning a major architecture prize and having an attractive wife and a son, he has been having an affair for six months with Sylvia. It's a play that Reid said she has done before. McCamus and Reid are veterans of the stages at Stratford and Shaw.

McCamus has starred in theatres across Canada. In the CBC film "Waking Up Wally," he played Wayne Gretzky's father, struggling to recover from a stroke, and won a Genie Award for his performance in "I Love A Man In Uniform" and was nominated for "Long Day's Journey Into Night" with William Hutt and Martha Henry.

Reid has played major roles for seven seasons at Stratford, four seasons at Shaw and was a core acting member for four seasons at Theatre Plus Toronto. Her Broadway credits include Much Ado About Nothing and Heartbreak House and she has appeared at the famed Actors' Theater of Louisville, Kentucky. Reid said she and McCamus, both Toronto actors, have moved to Warkworth and decided to spend this summer at their century-old farmhouse. They recently met New Stages artistic director Randy Read who invited them to participate in the reading.
