HAHAHAYES. That's Topher!
(yeah, I have no self-control, I started reading at work.)
Oh, Dollhouse without Echo, you are a wonderful thing. And I love that you're going to delve into the ethics. yay!

Yes, no Echo, and no Paul. Just Helo- and Helo stays Helo :) I hope you like where I went with the ethics- I had a lot of fun with them!

With this technology, a single person can be a skilled surgeon, an expert mechanic, a brilliant computer programmer, a ruthless torturer, an experimental chemist, or a legendary Viper pilot. Or they could be far more mundane, but know how to manufacture paper, how to spin thread from flax, or secrets of farming. There are forty thousand people left in humanity, Madame President. Surely there are gaps in our collective skills sets that could use filling.
So very tempting, I admire Laura for turning it down. I'm not surprised she kept it in reserve. It's very much like her at that point in time. I This situation sets up a wonderful way to explore the ethics of the technology. I'll admit my bias, even without the sexual uses, I dislike the way the technology turns people into puppets. It's very dangerous and I always considered it a disaster in the making; Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. I'm not someone who ( ... )

I think I mostly agree with you. The sexual uses I find repulsive, of course. And there is no other canon that I can think of where I can find the use of the technology remotely justifiable. BSG was an interesting place to take this though, because if there ever was a canon you might make a case for it, it's BSG. Every other canon I'm like "look, find someone else to do it and PAY them." This one... those people just don't exist any more. But yeah... I agree as well, that it's too much. That's what made it such an incredibly fun crossover :)
I'm so glad this one is making people think!

I'm so curious to see how you're going to get Laura from total resistance and hostility to the imprint technology to actually being open to using it. I like the cool, crisp way you've portrayed Adelle here. She's spot on. Billy surprised me with his willingness to use convicts! He's got scary hidden depths! And when is someone going to mention the connection to Cylons? *iz curious*
Also, I can't resist saying this: Technology that can change people's personalities? How did Laura resist immediately rounding up Gaius Baltar for a session with Topher? ;)
Excited to read the rest!

ROTFLMAO!!!!! It's a very energy intensive process. I'd guess that's got to be her reasoning. It's less effort to just flush him out the airlock if she can. :) (Plus, it would be BALTAR who would have the Echo-like super abilities, I'm sure. It would backfire on her, big time, because Baltar is the cockroach of BSG- he WILL survive anything.)

A great start!
