So yesterday was the day to finally say goodbye to family and friends up in Ohio. I had such a great time up there, but all good things must come to and end. Why is that? Damnit I hate that quote. Anywho, I went to bed at about 5 in the morning. Then I was woken up at 12 so that we could go to lunch at our favorite place in Ohio. The place is called Chipolte. It’s like a Rio Burrito, but with a Subway twist. You go down the line and choose what you want in your burrito, and its really quick, so that makes things nice and easy (and it is also the yummiest and hugest burrito around).
Random fact of the day: President Bush was a cheerleader long, long ago. A CHEERLEADER EH?! How funny!
So anywho (again), we all had lunch, then about 5:30 we left for the airport. 45 minutes later we arrive at the airport. Then through check-in and security (fun-fun) and we get to our gate about an hour early. So we have more sitting here, waiting for our flight to board. We then find our flight is delayed about 20 minutes. Ok, great, fine whatever. Sit here, or sit there, doesn't matter to me. Finally we board Cleveland OH, to Charlotte NC. We lift off at 8:05. Yay, more sitting. We were supposed to get in about 9:21, but instead we get in at 9:45. So we get to our next gate quickly and sit to await our 10:20 flight from Charlotte NC, to Asheville NC. I was only a little surprised when by 10:10 we hadn't boarded our flight. Then the guy gets on the intercom and says in a mumbly-forien-voice that some flight had been canceled. There were two flights going out of one gate so no one knew if he said Asheville or Jacksonville. So some people were walking over to the desk, others just kept sitting looking in surprise. So whose was it? Then Ian and I start cracking jokes about having to spend the night in the airport. We thought that it might even be fun. It was kinda sad how funny we thought this whole situation was, when some people looked very upset. So then it reaches us that it was Asheville that was canceled. So the guy gets back on the intercom and says that he is trying to check and see if that is true or not, so we wait a little more. A few more people walk over to the desk to get more info, others including Ian and I just sit back and wait for the confirmation. So he gets back on and says Asheville people have to go all the way down to the special services desk a few concourses down. So everyone walks all the way down there (not too far, but enough of a walk), and gets in the line to wait for more info. The guy at that desk tells us he is calling for more info. I talk to some people and they said there were some mechanical problems or something. So then the guy at the desk tells us "Ok I have good and bad news for you. The good news is we have an extra plane from Asheville coming to get you guys. The bad news is that you have to walk all the way back to your original concourse and gate." So we all start to walk back. In less than a minute the guy runs around the corner, tells us all to come back. Ok great, what’s going on now. We get back and he tells us all that there were a few other cancellations and that they didn't have but one plane with a pilot that could only work so many hours. And then some lady was like "Why can't he fly?" And the guy was like "Its a safety thing the airline has. The pilot can only fly so many hours and then he has to break." But this lady just could not comprehend. The guy continues, "He is only allowed so many hours for your safety. Do you want a pilot flying a plane when he is tired and has been working for so many hours?" So then he tells us that the next flight is 8:20 in the morning. He also said the airline is going to provide hotel service for the night and shuttle to and from the hotel to the airport. So then we wait in line to get our new tickets and then our hotel arrangements, great more standing around. We get up to the counter, get our new tickets, get a $5 voucher for the airport concessions (whoopee!) and are told we have to walk all the way to baggage claim more than halfway across the airport. When we got to baggage claim we were told to pick up a phone to dial the hotel we were staying for their shuttle to pick us up. Then the hotel told us to walk down to a special area to be picked up. So we wait for that, then get picked up and taken to the hotel. We didn't get our luggage, because that would have been a huge hassle, others didn't get theirs either. Once we get to the hotel we have to wait in a short (thank jubitzu) line to get a hotel room. We finally get to our room about 12 and we haven't had dinner. So this girl we met, who wanted us all to stick together (19 or 20) came and told me the lady who was doing the shuttle would take us to get some Wendy's when she was done picking up her last shuttle for the night. So Danielle (the girl) and I sat in the lounge talking about home and her going to college, waiting for the lady to get back. So she gets back, takes us to get some Wendy's, brings us back, and Ian and I finally have dinner at 12:45. I stay up to finish Fear Factor on TV and Ian goes to bed. I get into bed at 1:30 and I can't sleep for some reason. I finally fade off a little an hour later, but then wake again. Now its 3 and I finally fall asleep. Wake up call was for 6. I even set the alarm, and hit the snooze 3 times, got out of bed at 6:30. Went down to breakfast. It wasn't that great, I only ate one biscuit and a muffin. Then our shuttle was at 7 over to the airport. I get some Starbucks with my $5 voucher (whoopee!). And then there was more waiting for our flight. At the airport we met back up with this guy we all met the night before (18 or 19), and we all create this little weird group of friends, connected by this twist of fate. Get on our flight at 8:20, but have to wait for old people to board the plane. We got to Asheville about 9:10. Thank jubitzu; we were finally home (I have never used finally so much in one entry). What an interesting adventure full of sitting, and standing, and walking, and sitting, and standing, and walking, and sitting. It is definitely something everyone should experience at least once in his or her life. Through it all, I felt it was kinda fun, just being off on an adventure, w/o parental supervision, taking care of everything myself. It was strange, scary, tiring, but oddly fun. AND...When we got to Asheville we had to wait on luggage, and mine came out, but my brothers didn't come out. So we had to wait about 30 minutes, and then had to talk to the people at the desk. Ian’s was 1 of 4 that didn't make it. Whew! I got lucky with that one. AND...My mom and dad made me go to school, but first I had to go home and take a shower and change. And if you don't think I milked that situation for all that it was, then you are sadly mistaken. So finally I get school, and go on with reality. WOW! How crazy! Glad that's over!
P.S. They delivered Ians luggage around 7.
