"Are there whales yet?"

"No."

A minute dragged out before again, he was asked, "Are there whales now?"

"Still no. I will say something when there are whales, Michele. Go bug your brothers instead."

Being out on the water was always a little weird for him. Schools of fish showed up as huge, ridiculously fast masses and the water, while he could tell it was there, somehow felt more subtle than land. Currently, he was draped over the railing on whale finding duty. It gave him an excuse to hang out by the railing without admitting the boat ride was making him a little queasy.

Though maybe Michele had a sixth sense for knowing the best times to pester him. "Non. You said you would find whales. Were you lying to me?"

"Why would I lie about about stupid whales..."

"Whales are smarter than you!"

Oh great. Caesar turned and frowned down at the girl. "If they're that smart, maybe they learned to avoid ships with you on them."

On one hand, saying that did manage to get Michele to leave him alone. On the other, she had made a point to kick him hard in the shin before storming off. Ow.
