I registered for classes today. I have to take four classes to qualify for one of my grants, so I still have three days of school instead of two. Oh well. . . here is what I am taking this semester (which starts August 25).
Comparative World Lit 430 - HERO TALES-MEDITERRANEAN with Calkins (TTH 12:35 - 2)
English 612 - SERIAL NARRATIVE with Hackenberg (TTH 2 - 3:30)
Creative Writing 510 - PERSONAL NARRATIVE with Tomash (TH 7 - 10)
Creative Writing 603 - SHORT STORY WRITING with Tomash (W 5 - 7)
I've taken a lot of comparative world lit classes in the past and I really liked them, so I am looking forward to this one. I've always liked hero tales, and to be honest I haven't had to read Odessey or Iliad yet. SO, this semester I will.
I LOVE Hackenberg's classes. She even came to BayCon this past year and spoke on a couple of panels. She's way awesome. I need to remember to write a recommendation letter for her.
Yes, both of my classes in creative writing this semester is with Tomash. I like her as a teacher, but I've strugged with the previous class I took with her (Short short story and prose poetry). I did fine in the short shorts, but once we got to the prose poems I just was like GAH GAH GAH! Totally not her fault, my own hang ups. So I'm hoping getting away from poetry will be better. I hope she doesn't hate me. Eep.
Personal narrative I am a little unsure of, since I've only ever written from my personal experiences a couple of times. Each time it feels awkward and uncomfortable. I wonder how this class will go. I am looking forward to short story writing. I hope I generate a lot of great material out of it.
In other news, a friend is coming over later this week and we're going to jam on our basses together. It'll be fun. :)
