Once Upon A Time there was born a princess. Born the middle of three girls, the princess often found herself put into a position where competition was the entire way of life. She would find herself competing against the eldest princess who was controlling and cruel, or in a fight of some sort with the youngest who was petulant and youthful. So it was that the princess began her life, a life that was constantly about competition and came with very little things like love and acceptance.
The princess went through life putting into practice the principles she was raised with. Life was about competition and winning, the world revolves around you and, in the end, you most certainly do not need a prince to run the kingdom.
Yet knowing this and acting upon it are not always the same. While the princess that had become a Queen knew that she did desire a man, what one desires and what one needs is not the same. So she began kissing frogs.
One frog turned into a toad. Another became a rather vile worm. With each and every frog she kissed, the princess that had become a Queen learned much about the world and men and what it took to get what you want and what is expected of you but she was having no luck in finding a prince.
From a kingdom far, far away came what seemed to be the prince she sought. He was rough around the edges and sometimes was as smooth as diamond before the sharp edges cut. Even though his armor was tarnished, he was everything the princess that was not quite a Queen anymore had hoped for. He was the answer to dreams she hadn't even known she had and so she left her home and her family and friends and she went away to the prince's kingdom.
Yet what she thought was a kingdom turned out to be a prison for both the princess and her diamond in the rough prince. It was a cruel and wicked prison that took it's toll on the princess in such a short time. Then the kingdom itself turned on her, expelling the princess that was not quite a Queen anymore to die in the wild.
The princess who was not quite a Queen anymore was not that weak though and she survived, making her way back to her own kingdom. There she was welcomed with hugs and affection from her friends and so life once more was the same competitive world she'd once known. A world where magic happened and the dead returned to life and those that she loved most were always there for her and she for them.
She remembered that she was the Queen, a treasured princess, and she thrived.
