Keep your hands off good books Hollywood!
Two days ago I saw Harry Potter 5 and lets just say I lost even more faith in the in the idea of making a movie out of a book. Many people would disagree with me but I thought LOTR was the only good adaptation of a fantasy book into a movie. To be honest there's really only one fantasy series that I dont want anyone to touch. correction i dont want them to even think about touching, when it comes to turning it into a movie. I know Dragonlance gets no respect and im fine with it. People are quick to judge it because its based on D&D but I swear to you on my grave i (in my opinion) its a decent and fairly well written fantasy series. (Its hands down better than Harry Potter. I know people are going to hand me my ass for saying that but Its just my opinion) Its certainly better than ANY of R.A. Salvadore's admittedly entertaining but over all campy novels. So Its clear that someone "up there" dosnt like me because guess what?! The motherfuckers are making a movie!!!
I am certain it will suck because what makes Dragonlance good is not because its epic or because its action packed in fact its modest in both departments. Its all about character development! You read the books mostly because you care about the characters and all the action is purely a means to an end. Why am I so certain that this dooms a movie based on dragonlance before any planing takes place? Because the movie would have to be 3 1/2 hours long to do it any justice, it would need a director that wont focus simply on visual effects and action scenes to ensure he gets a "good movie". My point is look at the Harry Potter movies. They suck. The only slim hope I have that this movie wont be terrible is that its not live action. There are plenty of fantasy novels you can chew up and regurgitate into a two hour craporama, why Dragonlance. Go try the Dark elf Trillogy! People love Drizzt Do' Urden so much they cant seem to be able to stop making drizzt clones in every singe MMORPG they can get their hands on. Hell I bet second life has a dude with a drizzt clone and thats not even a fantasy game! Besides R.A. Salvador is all about action and a predictable plot hell his novels are perfect.
