We just got our power back. Yay!

Hurricane Ike did a number on my street. The whole town in general got whipped around pretty well, and every power line around my house got taken down, but still, I've gotta say, the fact that Dayton declared a state of emergency over this is pretty pathetic.

I guess growing up in tornado alley gives you a twisted perspective, but I personally don't think it's worth declaring a state of emergency if there's no one in mortal peril. The weather is beautiful, all the trees that were going to fall have done so, and power is being restored rapidly. No one is going to freeze or cook to death. In fact, the worst anyone is going to experience at this point is a bad smell in their fridge if they opened the door too often.

Oh well...whatever. On the flip side, it seems that the coffee shop where I'm working was the only one in the Dayton metro that had power. If there was another one, you couldn't tell from where I was--firmly rooted behind an espresso machine for hours on end. ;)

That said, I'm exhausted and I'm going to bed. G'night.
