So, I think real life just did a pretty good job of kicking my NaNo in the teeth. I'm gonna keep writing on it, but seeing as how i'm somewhere in the neighborhood of 5k words behind, I don't think I have much chance of winning this year.

At least it's a really happy kick in the teeth. So I said I wasn't going to say anything about my possible career stuff I've been looking at, but now that a couple of things have happened today, I think I'm going to share.

I spent most of my day today working as an assistant brewer. Which happens to be a lead-in to what I want to do for a living. I want to brew beer. Really freakin good old-world style beer. There's a one-man-band brewpub/inn out here, and the guy running the show has an awesome setup. I got to assist and learn his system. He said after probably two more brews I'll have the hang of it enough to run it mostly by myself. He also said I can draw up recipes and pitch them to him, and if he likes the sound he'll let me brew them. It's on a volunteer basis, but I want to be a brewer for a living, so this is absolutely invaluable experience. I'll be brewing on a 3 barrel system (a barrel is 284 pints of beer), once or twice a week, as I can make time. Huzzah! And I'll have easier access to materials for small batches in my little 5 gallon homebrew system for weirder brews like Lambic (which I want to try soon).

So I'm going out again on Saturday, and bringing a recipe for a 1 barrel batch of an Oktoberfest lager to see what he thinks, and sometime next week I should have the ingredients for a 5 gallon batch of Belgian Trippel. Once again, huzzah!

So I'm still doing NaNo, but it's taking a bit of a back seat to my long term career interests. (Sorry jayiin, you're the career writer, not me)
