It’s a beautiful day.
That is Tegoshi’s first thought when he skips out of his apartment building, flashing a smile to anybody he recognizes, which is basically everybody. Social butterfly, Ryo always likes to call him, and just thinking about the older man brings another brilliant smile to Tegoshi’s face.
“Yuya.” Lost in his own world, Tegoshi fails to hear his name, making the other frown. “Yuya,” Massu tries again, a bit louder.
“Eh?” Spinning around, Tegoshi manages to lose his balance, falling face-forward towards the hard cement, but Massu reaches out and catches him just in time. Tegoshi beams up at him, leaping upright. “Massu!”
Massu lets out a short laugh, not resisting the urge to ruffle the younger boy’s hair. “What’s up?”
“I’ve been ready forever. C’mon, let’s go already~” and with that, Tegoshi grabs his wrist, tugging him forwards.

As they stroll down the sidewalk together, past storefronts with extravagant displays and lavish colors, a certain advertisement, subtly yet beautifully colored outside a jewelry shop catches Tegoshi’s eye.
“Massu, come look at this!” The younger boy points at the picture on display, a beautiful and simple necklace that almost seems surreal.
“…it seems perfect for you…” Massu murmurs, and he pulls Tegoshi inside the store.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disappointed, they walk out the store, Tegoshi with his head hanging low. The store had run out of that type of necklace just 10 seconds ago, making Tegoshi feel horribly unlucky. He lets out a small sigh, kicking his shoe at a nearby rock and sending it tumbling across the street into a sewer.
“Yuya-chan? It’s okay; we can come back again sometime. Or you can get Ryo to take you,” Massu offers a light smile, patting Tegoshi on the back, but the younger boy can no longer summon up even a curve of lips.
He nods mutely. “Thanks, Massu…I really wanted that necklace.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hours later, Tegoshi is sitting alone on his bed, his eyes focused on the blaring television when the tropical ringtone of his cell phone snaps him out of his daze. Blearily, he stretches his arm just far enough to grab the phone, flopping his head down onto his pillow tiredly as he answers.
“Moshi moshi?”
“Hey, Tego-nyan.”
He smiles a little. “Hai, Pi-chan.”
“I was just wondering…” Yamapi trails off a bit, and Tegoshi can hear the faintest hint of a familiar voice in the background. Knowing that voice anywhere under any conditions, he immediately brightens.
“Pi, is Ryo there?”
“…eh?” The older man answers. “Oh, Ryo. Yeah, he’s here.”
“Jin, be careful with that.”
“Ooh. Are you giving it to somebody?”
“Shut up; Pi’s on the phone.”
“With that somebody, hah, I get it.”
“Uh, Tego-nyan? Earth to Tegoshi.” Blinking, Tegoshi focuses back on Yamapi’s voice, not realizing he had been asked a question.
“Um…sorry, what, Pi?”
There’s a long sigh on the other end. “I said, would you like to come join us? Kame should probably be here soon too.”
Tegoshi hears Ryo’s voice still whispering in the background, and a smile tugs at his lips. “Okay.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Hey, Tego-nyan! Over here~” Turning, Tegoshi notices Yamapi, Jin, Ryo, and Kame sitting beneath a tree in front of Yamapi’s apartment building, and he walks over cheerfully.
Ryo smiles at him, a small, but noticeable smile, and Tegoshi grins back. He sits down beside the other, leaning in to rest his head in the curve of Ryo’s shoulder. There’s a slight chuckle from Kame, who isn’t prone to obvious shows of affection with Jin in public.
“Hey, Yuya,” Ryo whispers softly. “I have something for you.”
Pretending to be surprised, Tegoshi tilts his head innocently. “What?”
Digging into his pocket, Ryo carefully extracts a leather box that takes Tegoshi’s breath away. Delicately carved letters adorn the velvety surface, letters that spell Tegoshi’s own name.
“It…it’s so beautiful. What’s inside?”
Ryo grins a little. “See for yourself.”
Awe-struck, Tegoshi hesitantly takes the box from Ryo’s hands, unlatching it and opening it with trembling hands.
And inside, there is the necklace he and Massu saw on display just hours ago, the one they weren’t able to buy.
“You…I…” Lost for words, Tegoshi looks up at Ryo with sparkling eyes. “How did you know?”
The other smirks. “Secret.”
“Can I…can I try it on?” Ryo consents with a nod, and Tegoshi gently takes the necklace out of the case, bringing it around his neck and expertly closing the clasp.
“It’s perfect,” he murmurs, fingering the charm as he looks down at it.
Ryo pulls him into an embrace, tight and warm, making Tegoshi feel completely safe and content. The older man leans down to press a kiss to his temple, letting him bury his face into the broad chest.
“You’re perfect,” comes the soft answer, and Tegoshi smiles against the vibration of the sound and the synchronized beating of Ryo’s heart. “My jewel.”
