It Had to be You-Chapter Two

Jun 26, 2008 11:02

“Why did Kazuya leave?” The question is directed towards Yuto as he slumps into a seat beside Ryosuke, crossing his arms as he looks up at Yamapi.

He shrugs. “Dunno.”

“You do know.” Everybody turns in surprise at the sound of Jin’s voice, laced with a sort of bitterness that makes Yuto pity him for a second before he recalls the pain Kazuya’s been in because of Jin. Narrowing his eyes, the older man stands up, gazing at Yuto. “Did he go back?”

Yuto nods with a small sigh of relent. They all watch as Jin turns his back onto them, briskly walking away and disappearing around the corner.

“So…what now?” Chinen takes the liberty of clinging onto Ryosuke’s arm once more, making Yuto narrow his eyes in the same way Jin did a few moments ago.

Yamapi is the only one who takes note of Yuto’s action, and he immediately springs to help. “Hey, Yuuri. I need to talk to you about something.” The younger boy tilts his head, an innocently confused look adorning his features. “In private,” Yamapi adds, his eyes signaling for Chinen to follow him.

Shrugging, Chinen lets go of Ryosuke and stands up hesitantly, following Yamapi back to NEWS’ studio.

Left alone, Ryosuke and Yuto glance at each other. Ryosuke smiles gently, and Yuto finds himself smiling back as the other offers him a hand to get up. “Let’s go back, Yuto-chan.”

“Okay.”

Kazuya is standing by the window, hands tucked into his pockets as he stares out. It hits him vaguely that he’s been doing a lot of staring outside recently, and he has the flitting thought that maybe he needs to get over whatever it is and move on with life.

The thing is, he knows inside that’s impossible for him to do.

Especially when the thing he needs to get over, is Jin.

He watches a car traveling on the street below, crawling along at a turtle-like pace down the damp pavement. Another car whooshes by it, leaving temporary tire marks in the wetness that disappear almost a second later. The first car continues to travel along slowly, hesitant and unknowing. Kazuya tilts his head as his eyes focus on it, following its path.

For some strange reason, it reminds Kazuya awfully of himself, crawling his way down the path of life.

His line of thoughts strikes himself as cheesy, then yet again, he tells himself he needs to move on with life. But it’s practically impossible.

Gritting his teeth, Kazuya grips the edge of the windowsill, inhaling sharply and closing his eyes. He leans against the cold surface of the sill, his palms flat on the smooth, painted-white wood.

The door creaks behind him, but he refuses to turn around, wishing instead for whomever it is to just go away. Contrary to that, he feels the person’s presence draw closer, so close until Kazuya is almost anticipating the sound of a voice.

But instead, he feels warmth on his hand, and his eyes fly open, taking in the sight of his own hand, pressed down against the sill. Another hand is covering his own, large and broad with slender, beautiful fingers. Fingers that entwine with his, wrapping around them like vines and closing the distance between them.

Kazuya ever so slowly raises his eyes from the hands to the person, mutely taking in the sight of Jin standing by his side. Their gazes lock for a long moment before Kazuya looks away, his heart catching in his throat.

Neither of them speaks a word, as they stand side-by-side, watching the scenery of life in the city outside the window.

And somehow, even with all the distance and breaking between them lately, it just feels so right.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yuto trails behind Ryosuke into the studio, stopping abruptly when they reach the couch.

“It’s cold,” he murmurs, bringing his arms around himself and rubbing his hands against his arms to create some kind of friction. There’s only a bit of warmth from the action, but it disappears almost immediately, leaving him feeling even colder than before.

Ryosuke smiles again, his eyes full of a certain kind of light, and he sits down onto the couch, digging through the cushions before pulling out a soft, worn blanket. He gestures towards Yuto with it, and the younger boy moves forward.

Rolling his eyes, Ryosuke lets go of the blanket and reaches a hand towards Yuto, tugging on his wrist and causing him to fall onto the couch. Ryosuke laughs, making Yuto pout and cross his arms.

“Sorry.”

The older boy pulls the blanket closer to them, covering them both with its warmth. He leans into Yuto, resting his head in the crook of the other’s neck.

Involuntarily, Yuto wraps an arm around Ryosuke, a certain kind of warmth bubbling inside his heart as he gives a small smile.

Ryosuke snuggles closer. “You still cold?”

Yuto shakes his head against the older boy’s hair, burying his face in the sweet scent. “Thanks, Ryo-chan.”

A grin spreads across Ryosuke’s features. “No need.”

In each other’s embrace, everything feels incredibly right.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

“So here’s what we do. We get the Y and the R together…”

“…And then bribe them to help us get K and J?”

“No. Bribery is not a good thing to do, Yuuri.”

“So what do we do?”

“…We promise them what they want.”

“Bribery.”

“No, it’s just a matter of convincing.”

“Whatever, Yamapi-senpai.”

“Are you ready?”

Chinen nods, his eyes twinkling with excitement. “Let’s go.”
