Three hours later, they are both slumped against the couch, voices hoarse, bottles of beer and water strewn across the table when the last song begins to play. Blinking, Jaejoong sits up straighter, averts his gaze over towards Yesung. "Aren't you going to...?"
"I give up," Yesung murmurs, yawns. "You win."
Fluttering his eyelashes, Jaejoong leans in, opens his eyes wide at Yesung. "But you didn't even try, Yesungie~"
Yesung makes a face, sticks his tongue out. "Why don't you try, then," he says, and is all too surprised when Jaejoong does stand up, microphone in hand, determined look in his eyes. The song is midway through when Jaejoong chimes in, off-key and voice strained, and Yesung has to resist the urge to laugh, clapping a hand over his mouth to muffle the giggles rising inside of him.
Shooting him a mock glare, Jaejoong continues to sing - and is close, so close to the final, high note when his voice breaks, ending in a squeak which is simultaneous to Yesung bursting out in laughter, hands clutching his stomach as he keels over his knees on the couch.
Jaejoong rolls his eyes, but can't help the smile that forms on his face as he opens his mouth in protest, shoving Yesung lightly and tickling him into the doorway, the both of them stumbling out into the cool night air. It smells like a city night, dimly lit alleyways and bright shop-lit corners, the faint odor of smoke and cooking wafting into their nostrils.
Yesung's laughter dies down after a while, even as he tries to deny Jaejoong's persistent claims to winning. "But you didn't reach the note," Yesung smiles grandly, and Jaejoong wrinkles his nose, reaching out to whack him on the head - but Yesung catches him by the wrist before he can, sliding a warm hand up to entwine with his.
Casually, Jaejoong squeezes a bit tighter, lets their hands fall in between them as they walk along a side street. It's times like these, with Yesung, that Jaejoong loves (because after all, it's only Yesung who can make him feel normal, un-special, just the Jaejoong he really is). He smiles, and walks closer to the other.

The next morning, there is a grainy picture of him and Yesung entering the karaoke in the rumors headlines, rigid gray font and all. Jaejoong just smiles, and tosses it into the waste.
Sometimes, even the paparazzi misses the best moments, and those are the moments that really count in the long run.
