so remember that time holmes wrote a letter to mycroft to tell him that he and watson were doing it
here's another one where he tells mycroft that, oops, lestrade saw them do it. but it might be okay.
My lethargic brother,
Have you hired someone yet to go about the tiresome business of opening your letters for you? If so, my deepest thanks to them. If not, I’ll allow you a moment to gather your strength before you continue reading.
I noticed you stopped a rebellion recently. When has the world seen two such men as us who make justice and power our business, and one doesn’t care a bit for justice, and the other treats power as a chess game? But your sort of chess game is easier than the regular sort, what with lifting and moving pieces all about.
No doubt you’re aware of my success at solving puzzles. I’ve even loaned my services to the Yard on occasion. Brace yourself, my most stationary brother, because I fear one of these inspectors from the Yard, Lestrade, now fancies himself my friend. I could try to explain myself, but explanations fail me. He even took it upon himself to visit Dr. Watson and me the other night following the closing of a case. Dr. Watson and I were keeping our celebration plans to ourselves, so as not to fool the poor inspector into thinking we share his friendly inclinations, and he still came by and invited us to drinks!
At the moment, I envied you and your chess pieces.
The inspector is thankfully the best of a tiresome bunch. This may come as the biggest shock of all, but I fear I wouldn’t mind allowing him to consider himself my friend.
Do let me know when you send someone to monitor my rooms from the place across the street. I’ll have one of my Irregulars send him some food.
I am, as always, your most reluctant and critical brother,
Sherlock
