(no subject)
So, with all this gallivanting (well, a bike ride followed by a weekend in warrnambool), Heidegger has had an interesting month. Spent 11 nights at Michael's brother's house with Kitkat (their cat), where he settled in nicely after about 3 days and left her at the end pining for him, sitting only in his chair rather than the one she started out defending as hers and only hers - now that he's gone she doesn't want it :P So they might be getting another cat...to keep her company. He came home for a few days, but after a day or so his right eye started getting all gunky (more than the usual and the wrong colour). So this was a bit of a worry - I tried to keep it clean just to keep him comfortable (I get conjunctivitis myself sometimes and I know how bloody irritating it can be), but wasn't really sure...we took him down to Warrnambool the next weekend, and one of Michael's grandpas (Pop) - who hates cats - was overheard to say "I don't like cats but that one is a good looking cat". The next day when we were out at Pop's farm, we were even allowed to bring him into the house! (since it was 20 min out of town and on the way home). The rest of the family were all impressed that he was allowed in at all, let alone given the entire loungeroom to have to himself. His eye was getting no better though, so when we got back to Melbourne I googled for cat conjunctivitis. I discovered that it could be a dormant virus (like people and the cold sore virus) that flares up in times of stress. I think moving into another cat's house for 11 nights is a good reason to be stressed, and since mid-last-week he's been fine.
Of course, what he doesn't know is that he's coming to Queensland with me in the morning. It'll be his first experience of a catbox too, we prefer generally to have him on our laps... so that will be odd for both of us I guess. Still, $40 each way for him and $45 for the box is cheaper and easier and more emotionally manageable than putting him in a cattery.
