It's a common misrepresentation of Muslims to say that moderate don't speak out. Firstly, since we are talking about Kenya, so many western scholars condemn it, scholars in Kenya itself condemned it - it is all over FB and online, really. Media doesn't portray that because it's not exciting and won't get ratings.

Secondly, how does one expect a "moderate" Muslim to condemn anything? Should I go to my neighbor's house and say "Hey, by the way, I condemn this." Or I should I say the same to every cashier I encounter? When all of the Muslim voices - namely major scholars, organizations, mosques - are condemning it, where else can a regular, average Joe Muslim set up shop to say "I don't support murder." Don't you think it's demeaning as a human being to even say that? Just to be made to point out such an obvious thing is insulting enough. For those terrorist, why do I have to apologize on their behalf? Should an American apologize for the drone attacks? Should the Christians apologize for McVeigh or any serial killer? Should the Taiwanese apologize for Virginia tech? Should all the whites apologize for white on black crimes? If so, then how many times?

On the contrary, those terrorist should apologize to moderate Muslims for putting us in the situation of constant scrutiny and racist remarks. That is never going to happen. The best thing, then, for an average Muslim to do is to educate others and especially other Muslims as mosques often and repeatedly do. But that's always preaching to the choir.
