A Muslim Burial in the Philippines
Assalamu alaikum
I am sharing photographs taken on a recent trip to Zamboanga City, Philippines in December 2008.
The lady who passed away is a distant relative of my late paternal grandfather. This album aims to educate and inform others how a proper Muslim burial is performed. Please note we do not have coffins or fancy grave markers. The body has to be prepared for burial in 24 hours. No delays. The body is washed thoroughly with soap and water and with utmost privacy. No drugs or chemicals are injected into the body. No removal of internal organs. Only a white cloth is wrapped around the body and no other items are included. A splash of good perfume is optional. The whole area is a Muslim cemetery which is totally different from how typical cemeteries from other faiths are expected to look like. The Muslim cemetery here is quite simple and very close to nature.
Let this be a reminder to everyone, death comes to everyone.
