Very exciting news about next year's jamboree, I've got it on my calendar already, can't wait!
Once again, the Independent Film Festival of Boston has some Canadian films included in their lineup, two really great ones:
MY WINNIPEG by Guy Maddin, this legendary and truly cracked up in a good way director whose films are always visually mindblowing - that's playing only once on Monday, April 28 at 8pm at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline (and Maddin will be there in person). If you've heard about Maddin's stuff but were too intimidated about his style to check him out, this is a great one to start with - it's sort of a documentary about his hometown, mixed with memories of his childhood.
Then of course is Bruce McDonald's THE TRACEY FRAGMENTS, starring Ellen Page, who's pretty much the whole movie and is incredible - this film is also a visual stunner, because McDonald takes split screen techniques and pushes them to their breaking point. Those of you who don't have sealegs might want to bring your meds - the effect is beyond anything you've seen before.
You can see the trailer among other things at the film's
website. That's playing on Friday the 25th at 9:45pm at the Coolidge, and Sunday the 27th at 10pm at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square. I know the IFFBers are trying their best to get Ellen to come, but she's verrah popular these days, so it's not likely, but I'll let you know asap otherwise.
